It was not until I came across Jai Khanna’s work, and saw how beautifully he had taken a traditionally busy and vibrant artform, and depicted it so minimally, so emotively, that I felt confident of attempting it myself.”
Pichwai’s are devotional paintings, normally based on cloth, depicting scenes from the life of Krishna in his Shrinath ji avatar. The artform dates back to the 1600s and is believed to have originated around the temple of Nathdwara in Rajasthan.
